Paul’s Birthday

Hey all,

My birthday on the 27th (we are all having our birthdays overseas this year!). The boys gave me pressies in the morning, Jamie Oliver flavor shaker!!! then we played pass the parcel and we had brownies.

Then as Jan guessed it we were all on the 99bus down Broadway to Granville and down to Granville Island for a traditional coffee at the only place in Vancouver that does a decent (in fact great) coffee – boy we are spoilt in NZ.

just a quick note about the soirée that we had at our place last night. We were meant to go out for drinks at a local pub (best dry ribs in North America), but it all fell apart at last minute, so we had just a couple of friends over for a drink sat afternoon.

Gerry and Sally were first to arrive. Gerry (BIG canadian boy) did his PhD with Janine in the same office at Victoria in Wellington and Sally is a kiwi who’s live here for quite a while. Thanks for the gifts guys, the hockey t-shirt is perfect. But really no pressies, still thanks.

Joe and Sarah and their boys Paul, Patrick and Johnny (the best Rowan Atkinson Mime since Rowan Atkinson) came a little later, which took the pressure off Gerry – Jamie and Charlie were relentless in their play fighting with Gerry. So all 5 boys were handed footballs and played outside till it got dark and very very very cold. Thanks for the entertainment boys, this was the first adult moment Nina and I have had since we left NZ.

When the light faded and before the hypothermia kicked in the boys then made their way into the bedroom to watch some telly, still more time just adults – what luxury!!!

So the pics are from this all too brief shin dig, the rum wasn’t even opened. But I have found a bottle store in Vancouver that sells 42 Below vodka, so next time – charlie’s birthday???
